rapid clickng from starter.

well, my starter worked fine when i park my car in jan, went to try to fire it up today and it has a rapid clicking, almost like when the battery id dead but WAYYYYY louder. Any ideas?

also anyone know how large of a fuse i should put in between the battery and the starter, i have a 100 amp now and it pops when i hit the button

Re: rapid clickng from starter.

It sounds like either the battery voltage is too low to keep the silonoid (sp) engaged or the silonoid is bad.

grab the wires and wiggle it to make sure its tight. If its not tighten it. Make sure its tight w/o corrosion. Then check the battery level and if its good then it should start. No need for a fuse b/c its on a relay already.

Re: rapid clickng from starter.

batery is good, wires are good. even tried a jump box. o well im going with a screwd up starter. i guess clicking isnt the right way to describe it more like a loud banging.

Re: rapid clickng from starter.

Put the car up on ramps, and give a few good whacks with a ball pean hammer, then try to start it. If it starts, then your armature is probably dirty and caused the starter gear to get jammed in the flywheel.
