Oil Sending Unit

Alright, I need to know what size 12 point socket I need to remove the dummy light version oil sending unit. I swapped clusters and this is the only thing left for me to finish it. I really need to get this done soon.

Re: Oil Sending Unit

Sounds like you're going to buy a socket. If so, buy yourself the correct tool:

Re: Oil Sending Unit

its way bigger than 3/8 my 7/8 wrench wont even fit over it. the only thing that could be that size is the round part on the top with nothing to grip.

Forgot the size.
Why don't you just use channel locks?

Re: Oil Sending Unit

3/8 is the ratchet size, not the size of the socket opening. The socket itself is over an inch.

Re: Oil Sending Unit

I realized what I said after I got outside, I got it out, and the new one didnt fit, it hit on the intake manifold, now I have to return it and try to get the correct one.

Re: Oil Sending Unit

If you're switching from the dummy light type to a gauge type, you may have to piece together fittings to make it work. IIRC, the oil pressure hole is 1/8" NPT (pipe thread). I have both sending units on my old pickup, it looks ridiculous. ;-)

Yep, the hole is 1/8" NPT. Head down to your local Lowes/Home Depot/Ace Hardware/etc and pick up a brass pipe elbow. 1/8 FIP to 1/8 MIP. Screw the male end into the block and then thread the sender into the female end of the elbow. Make sure you use teflon tape on both sets of threads to prevent leaks.

Re: Oil Sending Unit

Why do they make it like that? Whats different about the manifold on the LG4s with the gauges that would make it fit? Is it just the aftermarket sending unit?
