Timing Problem
Ive done tons of searches and read all I could read on the subject and Im about to lose my mind trying to get this motor on the street...
Ive got a brand new freshly rebuilt L98 that I stuck my LB9 heads on and my TPI intake and a Comp cam with a few extras
Ive got the motor running and am trying to get it running well. It has an extreme lack of power and after about 2000-2500 RPMS it bogs down. Everything I can tell is that this is a timing problem...
I have timed it correctly I believe...
I unhook the ESC and hook my light up to #1 spark plug and set the timing to 6* before top dead center as my VECI label so tells me but as soon as I hook up the ESC and try to test the RPM band the timing is like 20*+ btdc which I believe is the ESC doing its work but it still has no power after 2500 RPMs
It was a 305 to 350 swap and the knock sensor and ESC module have been replaced with new ones and there are 22lb injectors but the PROM hasnt been programmed yet but I cant believe that would mess up the timing
Also I think I can here backfiring out of the intake which makes me wonder... I advanced my cam 4* because it was said to be installed at 108* and had a 112 LSA and am now scared that the cam is too far advanced... but I dont think thats really possible... Im not sure though I just know I dont wanna rip the motor apart to fix it...
Thanks in advance

Re: Timing Problem
sounds like the cam is out of time ecu is tryin to compensate but can only adjust the timing so far might be a tooth off at the timing chain

Re: Timing Problem
Yup, Just got off the phone with COMP cams... My camshaft was supposed to be installed at 108* but failed to mention it was grounded at 108* so I assumed like normal cams it was ground at the ICL with an LSA 112 I advanced it 4 degrees so now its installed 8 degrees advanced... So now it explains why Im having so much trouble... Needless to say Im not very happy it would have been so much easier when the motor was out of it but oh well... Hopefully Ill get it done tonight... Thanks guys
Oh and do you think this will fix the issue I have with my lack of power after 2000 RPMs?

Re: Timing Problem
Dont advance the cam at all..with a comp cam just line up the dots dont even degree it..it's too simple.

Re: Timing Problem
Yeah I found that out the hard way... but a quick question I just finished putting it back together after dropping the pan a bit and taking the timing cover off and I had the crank gear installed 4 degrees advanced at the crank and to fix the problem I retarded it 4 degrees at the cam (i.e. the keyway is at 4 degrees advanced and Im using the 4 degrees retarded timing mark lined up with the cam timing mark) this should end up at zero correct? because Im having a hell of a time getting it to start now when it started no problem when it was advanced.... so now Im wondering if the gear timing is wrong again... I really really dont wanna rip the front apart again
