emission canister overflowing!!!!!! With GAS!

So there is a vacuum hose thats i guess "supposed" to be attached to the canister. Its a black hose that runs to the underside of the throttle body on the passenger side. If unplugged, the car seems to run a lot better, but if plugged in the car stalls sometimes. After running for a while i came home and realized there was a ton of gas being forced out of the canister, which is definately not supposed to happen. Can someone explain the purpose and how the canister is supposed to work? It appears as though its taking gas and filling the canister so it can be brought to the intake under the throttle body. Thanks

There is not supposed to be fuel in the canister. Its job is to temporarily hold fumes from the fuel tank. Then, when you are running the engine, the ECM turns on a solenoid to let the engine inhale the fumes from the canister. Not sure why you have fuel in there unless the line running back to the tank is not connected to the right thing.

There is a vacuum line coming from the canister to the manifold under the throttle body. Once unhooked the car seems to run better but i'm told it isnt supposed to be unhooked. There should be 3? hoses running from the canister? I have no idea why it filled with gas. We did replace the fuel pump but the car ran fine for a while until a fuel line busted, thats when we discovered this. (The car ran poorly so we unplugged the vacuum and thats when the gas started pouring out)

Do you overfill your tank? There's a checkvalve in the tank I believe, but it may not be sealing right.

The tank is about 3/4 full. i did replace the fuel pump, but i'm sure the lines are hooked up right, there is only one way they can be hooked up because they are steel lines. (They were previously cut and joined from someone else changing the fuel pump)

A mechanic here says it may be the vent in the gas stopper. It may not be working right which leads to built up pressure, but would that cause the gas to be forced into the canister?
