engine misses or cuts out

I have an 87 Firebird, 5.0L TPI equipped car. The engine idles fine, starts fine, but once warmed up, it sometimes misses. This can happen when you go to accelerate, or just crusing along at a steady speed. It's as if for a second the engine shuts off. Sometimes when this is happening the tach jumps up, all though the engine speed is not. So far I have replaced the fuel filter, cap and rotor and have tried a new MAF sensor.

Check the injectors, especially if they're the stock ones. Get an ohm meter and measure the resistance of them when they're cold and again when they're warm. They tend to fail as they get hot, and will either dribble too much fuel, or shut off and not squirt any fuel.

When cold they should measure around 14-16 ohms and when warm they should be more than 12 ohms.

Re: engine misses or cuts out

Yes got the car fixed. Took it to a Midas shop and was lucky to find an older mechanic who had worked on these cars before. He tested a few sensors scanned it etc and found nothing wrong. Then, he sprayed some water over the distributor cap and held a grounded screwdriver close to it. When the screwdriver came within an inch of the cap the engine slowed down and started missing. A new cap, rotor, spark plug wires, plugs and coil and the car runs like new.
Also fixed were ratling rear pads. There is a clip, GM calls it a spring, one side of which goes on the piston, the other attaches to the pad. Seemed only this guy out of all I had talked to, including dealers, knew they existed.

What is the object that you mentioned above in red (clip/spring)?

Hi.

I beleive they are called anti rattle clips, or spring. Phone a Chev dealer and they should be able to look it up for you. After market stores I don't think will have them. If your rear brakes are rattling and stop when you just touch the brake lightly, I would think you are missing them.
