Can somebody tell me if this is valve float??? cam is supposed to peak at 6000 rpms

 

Could be. What cam? What valve springs?

 

Lloyd Elliot custom cam...supposed to peak at 6000 rpms....

Springs are Howard something..... it was the springs he suggested... good for (I believe) .630 lift 350lbs of pressure...yadda yadda yadda....bottom line, the guy that ground the cam for me said use those springs and we all know the Lloyd knows his stuff

 

If the springs are the ones recommended for the camshaft and they're installed properly, then they're not floating. Having the correct springs and having them coil bind, won't give you full lift and will cause damage.

Are the heads and valvetrain set up to allow the lift of the camshaft? Is the piston to valve clearance enough?

Without knowing much about the head or engine setup, it's hard to make a guess as to what might be wrong.

Never heard of Lloyd Elliot. Never heard of Howard something springs. Most people use normal brand components like Comp Cams, Lunati etc. If you have no specifications, names mean nothing.

Heads are AFR 195cc the old ones how can i tell if i have coil bind?

 

With the valve at full lift, there should be a least .060" between all the coils.

The gap between the top of the valve guide and the bottom part of the spring retainer should also be greater than the valve lift or else the retainer will hit the guide.

Maybe you should be contacting Lloyd Elliot and asking him why his cam isn't making the power it's supposed to.
