cam question

i have a 350 speed d. motor. the block is bare and i want to build a mild hp motor that i can drive daily but have more performance than stock. I;m thinking about getting a summit rebuild kit. I have the original heads from this motor and i have no idea what kinda cam to get. its a roller motor so i guess i have to get a roller cam right? i'll take any suggestion on size of cam just keep in mind i would like to drive this car everyday. I am going to help the 350 to breath better and i would like better heads but for now i'm using stock. so in all it;s a stock 350 bored 20 over(according to the guy who i got it from.....gonna make sure before i buy anything) factory 64cc heads and some porting on heads and intake. the summit rebuild kit says 9.35:1 with 64cc head. so any cam suggestions?

you dont have to do roller cam u just wont need new pushrods. How much are you looking to spend on a cam? Comp makes springs, lifter, and cam combos that are good. Is this car Fuel injected or carb, stock or aftermarket heads? If your looking for a good sounding and performance cam try a thumper cam by Comp i have heard good things about them.

Re: cam question

its a 91 Z28 tpi. and the heads are stock heads from a tpi 350. the block and head numbers match to a 300hp gm crate engine . i want to spend less than $500 on the cam and lifters. i was just wondering if anyone had any good cam suggestions that will go well with a speed density car and wont kill my WC t5. it will be a daily driver about 40 miles round trip Mon-Fri so it cant be to aggressive but i would like more performance than stock.

Re: cam question

You have to find out what the max lift your heads can handle.
If they can handle the lift, I'd say maybe go with a cam in the 218 duration range.
But if you need to, you can get matching springs for any cam.
And stick with a roller cam. It would be a shame to take a step backwards and go flat tappet.
