I think i killed it...again ._.

So after another night of tweaking ends with a dead car once again. 92 camaro rs with lt1 tbi swap. Got my car from the tranny shop last night, running good but idling round 1700. Found that my edelbrock manifold had a massive leak. Spent all day today taking it off and redoing it. Tightened up my rocker arms a lil bit. and did other minor adjustments here and there. Went to go start my car and all i got was a loud backfire. Sounded like a shotgun going off. Ive checked all the vacuums and sensors cant find any reason for this. Wasnt doing it before. Whatd I screw up this time? -_-;

Re: I think i killed it...again ._.

did you take the intake manifold off? if so, you had to take the disty out, and it could be back in wrong. if you took the disty out, then put the #1 cylinder at top dead center, and make sure that both rockers for #1 move around (not pushing a valve open). then check your disty, it should be pointing at #1 on the cap. if it isn't, then pull it and turn it so that it does.

if thats not the problem, then you might have tightened the rockers a bit too much. that would cause u to loose compression, and backfire.

let us know your findings and the fix

Re: I think i killed it...again ._.

Turned the dist and it started right up...and died XD. Thanks for dist tip. Car runs aslong I hold the gas somewhat down, running really rough. Soon as I let off the gas it dies. All vacuums are plugged. Starting to wonder if the rtv I layed down on the manifold is holding. Any suggestions to the running rough and dieng problem before I rip the manifold off and do it again?

Where did you put RTV and how did you go about "tightening" the rockers? What part of town are you in?

NorthWest side of Houston. Rtv at the back and front of the block. Regular gaskets for the Intake Manifold. Maybe 45 to 90 degree turn for the rocker arms just to get some rattle out of em.

Re: I think i killed it...again ._.

The front and rear "china wall" seals are oil seals only. The worst they can be responsible for is massive oil leaks, but not air leaks. Are you sure you got your wires all back on right? How about the timing, have you played with it perhaps advancing it some more or checking it with a light?

BTW, if you took all the wiggle play out of your rockers, then they're too tight.
