oil filter help~!!!

hey guys..its been a while since ive posted

I am totally stuck! i have being trying to get the oil filter of my sbc (i know it sounds simple) but basiclly i cant

when i got the enigne it was a lil crushed(from the guy who put weight on if for a second putting the engine on a floor stand

i tryed an oil filter wrench, bent/broke two of them , so then i tryed to force a smaller wrench on, ended up starting to crush the filter

tryed by hand, no luck

YES I AM GOING THE RIGHT DIRECTION i made sure of it many times

so i tryed the old screw driver threw the filter to twist if off....no luck, just made holes

the engine is now on a stand, up side down with the oil pan off...so i have pretty good space around it

DOES ANYONE ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS!!!?!?!?!?!

i was thinking of putting some solvent around the bottom where the rubber gastket is and letting it sit for a while (hoping it would eat away at the rubber)

this was NOT one of the areas i anticipated me stressing over during my build

Re: oil filter help~!!!

Cut the can off as close to the base as possible. You will then be able to see the end flange, there are a bunch of holes in it for the oil to pass through. Use a screwdriver and hammer and tap the thing around the center using those holes and you should be able to get it off.

you have no idea...i took the above method but had to upgrade to a heavy duty 1 inch think drift (or punch or chisel, whatever you want to call it) some WD-40 on the treads, a lil prying on the seal, and about half an hour of hammering with a good size ball pein

Re: oil filter help~!!!

Were the threads, on the oil filter mount, messed up when the engine was set down, by the weight of the engine pushing on it?

Re: oil filter help~!!!

I know it's already taken care of, but I had this problem once and I used the biggest channel locks that I could fit under there and reefed like hell. haha.

that would do it....luckly for me i had the engine on a stand upside down with the pan off...so i had pretty decent space to work with...if this engine was in a car...there would have been no way i would have got it off
