Confused (what did I do?)
Confused (what did I do?)
Good morning, I have been reading posts on this site for quite a while now and you all have been very helpful. This is the first time I have ever written a post. So, I guess I'm new. Here's my question. I have a 92 w/ 305 automatic (tbi of course) I the cooling fan was not working and so after reading this site I was able to track down the culprit (temp switch just above the starter was faulty). Now the car will not start at all. Here are the courses of action that lead me to this place. First I just did a visual inspection of the engine and all wires. Un-hooked the A/C compressor (wire) and coolant fan so I could track down the clicking sound to find the fan relay (worked fine). Hooked those items back up. Then noticed that the wires that go to the coolant temp sensor on the intake were damaged. At first I thought this was the sensor that told the fan to turn on so before I fixed the wires, I twisted them together and turned on the key to see if the fan would turn on (of course it didn’t) so I removed some insulation and soldered them back together correctly and covered with heat shrink tubing. I removed the bracket that holds the fan relay and another relay and inspected it then re-attached it. In the process of inspection I accidentally leaned on the coolant by-pass valve (made of plastic) and busted it. Coolant went down the side of the block. There was none on the intake or distributor. I did notice one small drop on the top of the tbi. I seriously doubt that any went into the tbi intake. Even if it did it would only have been a drop or two. Other than spreading apart various wire looms to inspect wire (very gently) I can’t think of any thing else I did. And now it won’t start.
Seems to have fuel and my timing light is lighting up on the plug wires.
What do you think??
Thanks-emk
