cleaned my throttle body and IAC w/pics

I was having a high idling issue and suspected a sticking IAC so I decided go clean it along with the whole throttle body and thought I'd take some pics. Oh yeah, it's off my Holley stealth ram.

And this is after cleaning with one of those sponge type paint brush. I used CRC's Throttle body and Air intake cleaner, (highly recommended).

Re: cleaned my throttle body and IAC w/pics

I just got done cleaning my stock throttle body on my 89 Corvette. I noticed the OEM gaskets were rubber for some reason. So, no mess to clean up. I wish they still had rubber gaskets as all they had were paper gaskets.

Are you keeping the throttle body cooling thing, or are you gonna bypass it?

I just cap it off and don't use it. Doesn't take long to warm up here in SW FL, lol

Did it help your idle issue?

Re: cleaned my throttle body and IAC w/pics

Actually, so far yes. But I was experiencing an intermittent high idle issue for some reason. I was thinking the IAC wasn't able to close all the way due to some sort of build up. I've only started and idle at normal operating temp once so far. And it idled normally. The throttle did feel a little nicer and smoother too. The can did say that is would leave a "lubircating residue" behind, which I think I could feel, and I think it may have had a positive effect, mainly in lubricating the throttle shafts and bushings. Also, the "Throttle body & Air intake cleaner" does seem to been a little less harsh (nice for aluminum parts) then carb cleaner that most people would use (such as myself), but I'm glad I didn't. I'm glad that I spent and extra $2.00 on the can, lol, plecebo and peice of mind have value too right? lol.

So, the CRC throttle body cleaner leaves behind a lubricating residue? I used that to clean the gunk off mine, but then followed that up with simple green and water. I already put it back on the car. I'm guessing I could spray some on it to lubricate it?

I also got the CRC MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF.

Also, I noticed alot of carbon build up inside the Plenum. So, I took the Intake Air Temp sensor out of the Plenum, and cleaned all the carbon off the tip. I don't know if the carbon would be affecting it or not, but figured it didn't help. So, I cleaned it.

I haven't decided yet to bypass the coolant in the throttle body. I may just leave it stock. Though, I know it is designed to prevent iceing of the throttle blades. But I've read that can or does occur while driving. Something to do with low and high pressure. But most of what I read says no one has had problems with it bypassed.
