engine cuts out

i just recently put another 305 in my 91 RS, cause the other was toast. with this motor in, anything above 3 grand or so, it starts cuttin out and hesitating really bad. almost like its not gettin enough fuel, or maybe even the timing is a little off. i have replaced the coil, fuel filter, new plugs, new wires, i believe i installed a new cap and button, also have removed the smog pump and related hardware upon slipping this engine in. i still have my egr valve (which could prove to be a bad one) it stil has the factory TBI. sometimes after i start it up, it misses real bad till it gets warmed up, especially after a good rain (it has a cowl induction hood). im grasping at straws. am trying to hold off on going carb till the motor on the stand is done. i just would like to be able to joyfully drive my maro again.

Any ideas???
