305 for a daily??

I am looking at getting a 305 camaro as a daily car but I was wondering if there is anything I should watch out for with a 305? How bad is the MPG with a good running 305 carb motor? I know my 350 was horrible for a daily lol.

this is a 305 carb 1984 Z28 HO car. I would have to drive it daily and need decent gas MPG.

Re: 305 for a daily??

i have been running 305's for decades - bought 4 of them new and they were good dd. gearing is ok on gas, especially if you do freeway driving.
i still like mine.

any idea of what you think it gets for gas mpg? I know its a v8 but figured since its alittle smaller then my 350 it would do alot better being driven easy.

I just drive in the city mostly, to school and back. I don't think It would be to bad on gas. I know my 350 was pretty bad but maybe a 305 would be better.

Re: 305 for a daily??

16-18 is the most i would expect for city. smaller does not always mean better if its less efficient and the 305's are not very efficient. I'm still going to dd mine, but I also have a smaller 4 cyl car for long trips and such.

thanks. the car won't go on long trips. It will be just around my town and such not to far. Maybe a hour away at most.

here is the car in question.

he wants to trade for my DD toyota truck 4x4. I really want another third gen too.

Re: 305 for a daily??

well I might be getting a job about 1/2 an hour away plus Im going to college thats a 40 minute drive every day to and from so thats what the cheap 4 cyl will be for.

The car looks nice. the body and paint look clean and the rims look good imo. I would do it as long as everything checks out. I would lose the hood but thats just me. I would love to have a 4 cyl camaro as a dd. then I could be stylin' all the time. haha

Re: 305 for a daily??

To me that hood and wheels look sweet. I'm still having minor idle problems and am kind of heavy on the gas to be on the safe side, but other than that 15mpg would seem about right. The way I have to drive it, eh maybe 13 city. I don't do much highway/freeway driving. If its injected, its probably alright. Carb, well I think they're a little harder on gas mileage.

Re: 305 for a daily??

Well in general for a daily driver then, I say go for it. Winter isn't a concern where you are, and you can probably get by on 20$ a week (not sure of your prices, local is about 3.62 for the 89 octane) if it's just the school trips. Might need a bit more depending if you use it to run errands, friends houses, things like that.

Re: 305 for a daily??

My '82 gets **** for mileage but im 17 and i love that gas peddle haha i feel the need to rocket off every red light... no matter who is next to me be it grandma or my 17 yr old counter part in mommy and daddys Lancer (which i beat =) he had me in the beggining cuz my car hesitates then i flew past him at... well a high rate of speed lol) I also just got it about a month ago so im still getting used to the fact that i have 8 working cylinders instead of 3 out of 4 lol...

I would still drive my car if it got 5 miles to the gallon just because i love these cars that much though so i dont even pay attention... i just feed her when she wants her food
