will my engine live???
please help me decide if i should run nos please. please answer honestly your not going to hurt my feelings. I have a 355 I have installed in my camaro, the lower end is stock besides arp bolts (rods, crank and head bolts). The engine is a older build I just freshened it up(new rings, bearings). The engine code says its a 1969 350 passenger car engine, it is a 4 bolt with factory steel crank and rods. I put a good tru roller chain and luniti bracket master solid cam in it, the pistons are trw .120 dome not floating though. The heads are pro1 platnum 72cc. holley 750dp and victor jr intake. My concern is the rods, my engine probably will pull 400+hp at the flywheel without nos. thanks for any help. oh by the way i have a nos cheater system that is adjustable, holley blue pump and 1/2 inch fuel line and rpm window switch and rev limiter for safty

Re: will my engine live???
i guess i have a question why the .120 dome and the 72cc head? trying to make something work or planning a future upgrade?
you havent mentioned how much NO2 you plan on running 75HP? 125? 200?
would probably live a long time behind a 75shot if it was set up properly.. where as a 200shot might only last for well a very short time

Re: will my engine live???
you're worrying about the wrong thing. the real concern is the extra heat causing the top ring ends to butt. Nitrous doesn't hurt rods, RPM does. If your rods are surviving your current rpm habits, they'll survive the same rpm with nitrous.

Re: will my engine live???
Good point ^^^ The reason many older engines live on NOS is because of ring wear. New engines die because they were not gapped for NOS and thus ring butt and popping the upper ring land off and destroy the engine in some cases. If you gapped your rings for NOS, you are ok, if not, Don't do it.

thanks for the help hopefully its fast enough with out. because i did not put chrome rings in it i just ran cast rings. I had this engine in a different car before and it ran strong before i dropped 2500 into it.

Re: will my engine live???
this is for SpitotRs305 reply. these pistons were in engine when i tore it apart, pistons were in good shape yet along with bore. flat tops would have been my first pic though. the heads i took off from it were cc at 72, they had been machined, i could get away with 92 octane with iron heads at that time so i ran the same cc heads but with aluminum heads. what is wrong with the piston and cc of head?

Re: will my engine live???
nothing "wrong" with it... it just didnt strike me as optimal bigger CC heads like that i was wondering if you were planning on an upgrade to a 383 with flat tops
basically what that combo is doing is dropping your CR with the 72CC head and raising it again with the domed pistons
just sorta like 2 steps forward 1 step back if you know what i mean
