New Cam Help
Im looking at getting a cam for my 92z with a 305. I found a kit that looks pretty good. I'd like to know what you guys think and how much HP ill have after the upgrade.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-K08-501-8/
Right now my 92Z has less than 40K original miles on it(see photo album). The only thing i have done to it is:
* Borla Cat Back System
* 22 Pound Injectors
* Race Chip
* TransGo Shift Kit
Other than that, Its a stock car. So how much HP will i be looking at?

Re: New Cam Help
That's a fine choice, and I'd say do it, but your main bottleneck is the stock TPI base and runners, and those exhaust manifolds. Put those high on your list of what to do next. With this cam, you'll need to verify your retainer-to-seal clearance, and you'll need some new valve springs. Be aware that you have different exhaust manifolds than the optional Z28 engines. The TPI 305 with the T5 used the same exhaust manifolds as the 350, but your 305 didn't get those better manifolds. They're still about 35 hp shy of headers.

Will the valve springs in the kit not work?

Re: New Cam Help
you're connecting words that I didn't connect. retainer to seal clearance is a separate issue from the fact that those stock TPI parts are what is limiting your performance. First, you won't see much improvement in power from anything you do until you get some better-flowing runners and base. Second, and separately, I've had one of my third gen Camaros on a chassis dyno with the good manifolds, then again 3 days later with headers. The difference was 35 HP. Thirdly and separately from either 1 or 2, when you install a cam with lots of lift, like the cam you chose, you need to verify that when the valves are fully open, the retainers are not hitting the valve seals. Last, and separately from any of the above, I failed to notice that you chose a kit, I just looked at the cam specs, but those springs will work fine.
