removing emmisions pump.

so my emmision pump is froze up. so where i live there arent any restrictions about emmisions. so seeing as i dont have a belt on it(and it dosent work) would removing it do any good? i know its going to make alot more room is this a good idea?

p.s. its cabureted, so its not gonna mess with my ecu.

Re: removing emmisions pump.

Rip it off and all the hoses and crap that connect to the exhaust manifolds. It's all dead weight. Just make sure you plug the holes in the manifolds, they are 1/4" plugs I believe

Re: removing emmisions pump.

When I bought my 87 GTA 4 years ago, the pulley was off the pump, the hoses after the manifold tucked away, so as not to be an obvious disconnecting something.

An ECM doesn't care about it any. As long as what comes out is clean, that is what the O2 sensor sees & an ECM wouldn't care HOW it got clean.

Besides....Even without the smog pump, my GTA burned CLEAN, even with emissions tests.

Pull it off. Won't affect anything, either way.

Re: removing emmisions pump.

so another question is what am i going to have to plug when i take the actual pump off? is there gonna be a big hole there? i cant say ive ever messed with emission pumps before.

and as a little off the subject, can you just beat out the cat? i know you can do that to most cars, i dont have the money to upgrage my exaust and i thought that would help too, free up a little more air flow.
