Loss of power??
First thanks to all the people who post here it has been really helpfull.
I have a 91 z28 350 TPI and had a no start issue, fixed by reading here and my manual. I had a bad pick up coil and decided to swap the dizzy due to its age. Also put a new coil & ICM just for good measure. I got engine to operation temp and cut the it off. I unplugged the connector & started the engine, set timing @ 6* BTC cut off & plugged the connector back up then test drove. It ran smooth but had lost a bit of power woulnt even spin the tires. Reset timing to 6* BTC, now can at least spin tire but not like before. It also seems to be late shifting and has a lag at full throttle. You punch it from a dead stop and it takes a second before full power. If you are going like 35 or 40 and punch it then it also takes a little more time than usual to get spooled up. Thanks for any help i can get and when I find the solution I will post it so others can benifit as well. I a;lmost forgot when I unplugged the gray connector the book said it should generate a tbl code but all i had was the 12's the plug didnt seem to effect any thing as far as the engine running. i am quite sure i unplugged the correct one, it has a white single wire and a gray connector.

Re: Loss of power??
The only connector that I'm familiar with that you disconnect to set timing is a brown wire with a black stripe. It breaks out of the wiring harness just above the blower motor housing.
Maybe it's different on a '91?

Re: Loss of power??
I have the exact same problem with my car. I couldn't spin the tires from a dead stop for anything. I did the plugs, cap, rotor, checked timing etc..... and it restored a little bit of power to where i can spin them, but not as violently as i should be able to.
Do you happen to have a ticking sound from your car? I do, and its coming from my tranny. If you do, it could be something else not related to the ignition or engine.
I made the mistake looking and replacing engine parts to try to fix the problem.
Hope this helps, im just kinda rambling.

Re: Loss of power??
I have a German Shepherd too. Great dogs!
Don't worry about how long it takes to respond. Heck, I didn't expect a response at all!
Some things change from year to year but, I didn't think the EST bypass wire changed. I certainly could be wrong but, I think the wire you need to disconnect is over the blower motor housing. It should be a brown (or tan-ish) wire with a black stripe. Black connector.
The timing instructions should be on a label on the underside of the hood. If every thing's stock that is.
Do a search on EST and you may find a recent thread where someone asked the timing question.
Good luck!
