Pro-Filer heads
Anyone on here using Pro-Filer heads?
A distributor is trying to push me to try them on a build, but I had a hard time finding data on them. They are anti-AFR.

Anyone with any unbiased info it would be nice to hear.

Re: Pro-Filer heads
64cc it seems. Runner sizes are 195cc and 215cc in the 23* head.
Doing some research, it appears they started with BBC heads and SBC is a newish offering. Darin Morgan is their main head guy there.
They are pushing the angle that their heads have an edge over AFR, yet with a retail price of under $1,000.. Tempted to try them but looking for folks who have.

Re: Pro-Filer heads
Heh.

Darin Morgan is the port designer there since '07 and claims the new profiler 23* "spank" the AFRs.
I'm not convinced, but for the money it's almost worth trying.. Though again, I'd like to hear some guys who have used them and went fast.

Re: Pro-Filer heads
Haven't seen them on a dyno, couple of guys running them at the drag strip last summer, both the guys liked the heads and did have some significant ET improvement with the heads.... one guy in a mid10's Camaro picked up a 10th as compared to the old Canfield's he had.... If you're not in a hurry, I know of a set going to the same guy who does my heads.... They're gonna be ported and flowed, then onto the dyno....but probably not till after the 1st of the year..... Specs sure do look interesting on them....

Re: Pro-Filer heads
He's just running brackets with a 383, not sure what the cam, etc, is, just a guy at the digs, not everyone likes to talk about what they have..... his car is a Camaro, dials in about 10.40. With good weather and good hook he throttle stops a bit about from the 600'- 1,000', suppose it'd be a 9.90 car flat out..... Probably about 2800 lbs. Ignition is MSD crank trigger.

Re: Pro-Filer heads
I have seen and touched them.
They come in an as cast 195cc version and a 210cc version. The one interesting thing I noted with they only have one quench pad compared with the two that AFR has. I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. Only time will tell how good they are. The only engine dyno run I have seen was the 210 heads on a 408 motor and I believe it pulled something like 580hp.

Re: Pro-Filer heads
FWIW I emailed them last night and asked where they are cast machined and assembled one of their reps, Mike emailed me back this morning.
Sound like pretty good heads to me.

Re: Pro-Filer heads
These look A LOT like Canfield heads. Same valve sizes, gasket recommendations, and very similar flow numbers....
Which is great! My Canfields kick *** so....

Re: Pro-Filer heads
Spoke to Mike at Pro-Filer.
All the heads, 195cc, or 210cc use felpro 1206 ports.
Available in 64cc, 70cc, and 72cc only.
Did not give milling specs, even after me asking.
$1000 is the complete price, $825 for bare.
Did not tell me what was included for hardware, even after me asking TWICE.
Spring specs are (according to Mike):
1.900" install height, 115lbs
1.250" open height, 335lbs
338/lbs per inch
Max lift is .650 according to them. I'm assuming coil bind is something around 1.150" but they didn't answer that question.
So I have a few problems with Pro-filer.
1) The springs are good for a flat tappet cam. Not hydraulic roller. No way.
2) 1206 port is great for a high rpm motor, but for your average street motor I think it's going to suck down low.
3) No idea what you are getting with the head. Studs? Guide plates ?
4) No known combos with this head, who knows who is using them.
