Cam for mildly built 350 driver
I have a 1984 trans am with a sbc from a 1979 jimmy. I was wondering if somebody could help me pick a cam. It is getting a lifter job, and I figured I would put in a cam while the top end was off, because summit sells cheap cam/lifter kits. Because the engine was origionally from a truck, I think upping the cam will really waken it up.
Info on the car: 1979 350 jimmy engine with an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, Holley street dominator intake, dual core radiator, Flex-a-lite fan, Heddman Jet-Hot coated shorty headers, Flowmaster cat-back exahust.
TH-350 with a shift kit from a 72 camaro. Stock limited slip rear with 3.23 gears. Also I will probably take off the cat after it passes inspection.
The range of cams in the kit is limited, but there is a range. I was hoping somebody could help me pick one of them, or tell me what the numbers mean. Thanks.

Re: Cam for mildly built 350 driver
I'd suggest the K-1101 or the K-1102. The 1101 is best up to 4000 rpm, good for a tight converter and mild gearing like yours, especially at stoplights. The 1102 turns on up around 1500 rpm, and holds on past 4500. It'll make you think about investing another $100 into a 2000-stall converter. But if you can do the converter, that's what I'd do.
