I was looking for the thread that was started trying to find all the different bolt sizes for these cars but couldn't find it. I need to find out the size of the bolt used to hold the torque arm mount onto the tranny. Not the two that hold the main part, but the one bolt that holds the removable piece of the mount. Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

 

Don't know what it is off the top of my head, but it would probably just be easiest to find one in a boneyard. It's a high grade (10.9?) metric, not easy to find in a hardware store. You don't want to take the chance of it breaking on you while you're driving

That's not what he's looking for is it? He needs the bolt for holding the torque arm onto the tailshaft, where the bushing is. There are 2 large bolts on bottom and one relatively small one on top of the bracket, that "clamps" the bushing together so to speak. That's what he needs, not the bolts on the differential, assuming I understood him correctly. I've never seen it for sale new

You are correct, Primetime91. As for finding one in the junkyard, F-bodies in the U-Pick yards are like hens teeth. I thought I hit the jackpot this year because I found not one, but two. Both V6s and both stripped clean.

Try looking through/asking on the Classifieds forum. People who have converted to crossmember mounted torque arm may have their old part available.

 

The thread is M10 x 1.5, with 1 3/16" under-head length. It's a grade 10.9, which I think is the highest metric grade

When I got my car put back together, I guess I didnt snug it down enough and it backed out on me after a few hundred miles....

Was halfway to a friend's house and heard something clanking around under the car as I shifted into 2nd... immediately let off and everything felt okay... let the clutch back out and started again and I hear a loud CLANK near the shifter. Then it seemed fine for a little while.... everytime i'd slow down, it would clank. Then after speeding up it would clank. Sharp turns? Clank....

It took me a couple of miles to figure out what was going on. But fortunately GM designs those mounts so that you can lose the top bolt and the torque arm wont fall out of the car.

Anyway... I'd suggest some loctite on that damn thing. It's a pain in the *** to get to.

 

Definitely use loctite. And for those of us with T5's (Yay ) the bolt isn't that difficult to get at if you remove the center console and shifter, or the shifter boot anyway. But talk about a bitch to get at from underneath the car...

 

Yeah, it sucks trying to get from under the car. Luckily I haven't put the shifter boot back in yet, so I'll get it topside tomorrow.
