Re: got the GTA weighed.....

IIRC the GTA's were 3456lb from the factory.
I still need to weigh mine but i'm thinking it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 3300lbs.

Re: got the GTA weighed.....

GTAs were generally the most "optioned up" model of the Firebird you could buy. Yes, they're fat.

But look on the bright side.... a new '10 Z28 weighs almost 600 lbs. more than your GTA! So your GTA is a featherweight compared to one of them.

Re: got the GTA weighed.....

the thing is that i remove about 150lbs from the car last year with all the ac and smog and the spare tire and lightweight engine parts..... im 6'4" and 170 pounds...... i guess my tpi must have a ton of power because it moves that tank pretty quickly.... for the weight of my car i really cant complain of the power that i have..... if i had the weight of some of these light imports i would have a super quick tpi...... i know if i swapped my engine and transmission into a fiero i would be much quicker

Re: got the GTA weighed.....

So i guess it's true..don't believe what the door sticker says about these cars..

as stated on my identification sticker, it states that F weight is 2177lbs and rear weight is 2100lbs...which makes it a total of 4277lbs! At first i believed in that number but then i keep thinking "are they really that heavy??"
88fastgta, if your car weights 3450, then i assume my 89 is around the same thing only i a lil heavier since i still have the stock rubber spoiler and i have ttops as well...i hear that hard tops are lighter then ones that have ttops...interesting numbers though...i'm sure we can make these cars lighter with few mods to them...

Any weight listed on the car is most likely gross vehicle weight, as in what it should weigh with full cargo/passengers and really isnt a good gauge for actualy vehicle weight.

Yeah, that's your maximum gross vehicle weight, not curb weight.

Re: got the GTA weighed.....

im still not done with the car... i still have the stock rubber wing thats busted up... im going to get a fiberglass remake..... then i might switch to corvette aluminum heads to shave about 60-70 pounds total off the car making it under 3400 pounds...

Re: got the GTA weighed.....

you will only save 45lbs with the switch to aluminum heads. And why waste money on those heads? Better can be had for the same cost.
...Unless you can get 'em for less than $300 and can do some killer port work yourself..

Re: got the GTA weighed.....

Mine with T-tops. jack, spare tire, aluminum heads, shorty headers, dual cat system weighed in at 3510 pounds. Maybe 1/3 tank of gas. I have since done some weight reduction and hope to get down to around 3430.
