TBI , moving in the right direction : running rich
after replacing multiple ignition components and temperature sensors and a throttle body rebuild , and until today a "new" fuel pressure regulator from a late 80's gmc suburban and a regulator spring from a 91 caprice . My car ran less rich after the swap , now it still smokes but not as much , i got a ticking noise coming from the TB unit " dont know if this is normal" but when i first got the car a year ago it had the ticking noise , also my injectors dont spray as much fuel as before the swap " i serviced my injectors @ witchunter" , now what else could it be , a big cloud of white smoke comes out of the exhaust at the slightest press of the gas pedal , and a steady flow of smoke at idle . now i've also read on here that a clogged reurn line could be the culprit here . Where would the clogg be ? , would it be between the section that goes from the TB to the drivers fender behind the vapor canister ? or should i go out and buy a 4th oxygen sensor ?

Ticking noise is pretty normal. The injectors can be loud.......
White smoke? Not burning coolant are you?

Re: TBI , moving in the right direction : running rich
previous to this problem i had an overheating problem . so i tore it down and did an upper engine rebuild " valve seals , head gaskets etc." after that it ran rich due to a loose exhaust manifold "fixed" but it still runs rich , hence this post . But since you brought up burning coolant "its been brought up before" , I remember that part of the intake manifold had corroded near the runner for cyllinder #7 and i still went ahead and slapped it on the block , ever since then i noticed that all the coolant in my reserve tank has dissapeared , but still i dont think that would be the culprit , or would it ?

If you are losing coolant, and it isn't appearing on the ground....... gotta be going somewhere. Generally, white smoke is coolant, blue/grey is oil, and BLACK is running excessively rich......

yeah , im going to go pick up a used intake manifold tomorrow , im taking it from a 91 caprics , think it will match ? as for the smoke , its still smells like gas , theres an ant hole right under one of the tail pipes and evry time i run the car it kills the ants and makes the asphalt get damp and the always intoxicating smell of raw gas .

Raw gas? Or burning coolant? Burning coolant is right nasty smelling, and will get your eyes and throat burning in short order...... Making the asphalt damp may or may not be a problem.....
Killing the ants is definitely not a problem.

does your coolent have oil in it (or your oil have coolent)? sounds like a head gasket, did you torque the bolts in the right order?

well , it smells like gas , and no there is no coolant in my oil , as a matter of fact because of the rich condition my oil now smells like gasoline " i have read that its common because the PCV system picks up the excess gas from a rich ingine" oh and also what makes me believe that its gas and not coolant iis that my pluggs turned black and theres alot of carbon buildup on the previous o2 sensors that went bad , but just to be on the safe side im going to replace the intake manifold with one from a 91 caprice with a 350 , it should fit right? also why didnt it smoke before the rebuild ?
