Rod bolts, resizing rods.

i heard someone talking about this for there sbc, apparently theres some that are the same length and weight as the stock ones yet net a PSI strength rating like ARPs 200,000 and don't require resizing the rods.
anyone like to elaborate on this?

Re: Rod bolts, resizing rods.

Why would bolts require resizing the rods? Generally, I always thought "resizing" referred to making sure the crank journal was the right size.......

Re: Rod bolts, resizing rods.

the arp wave lock bolts require resizing because they fit so tight that they can cause a slight bulge in that area. i've run the arp stock replacements without resizing with no problems

Re: Rod bolts, resizing rods.

with new bolts the cap won't line up exactly how it did before and the rod will be out of round this is what iv heard. it even says on arps install sheet
"rods resized. This procedure is recommended any time rod bolts are replaced"

This sounds about right. Its always a good idea to at least have the rods checked for roundness when new bolts are installed anyway though.

Re: Rod bolts, resizing rods.

The bolts are pressed in and are close enough to the rod bore that it could distort the bore or have a slight alignment change on the cap. Its more likely to have a bore distortion than anything. I've heard some people say you can just swap them out no big deal, but I'd at least have them checked.
