305 Carburated
Had a new $400 starter put in during the summer. New clutch starter switch. Battery is fine, terminals clean. Fuel squirts when I hit the gas pedal. Lights, radio, etc. work, there's a clicking I can hear when I turn the key, sounds like it's coming from under the car, I think it's the starter doing it's thing. Tried jump starting, doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

Gold plating means it is plated with gold like a watch or necklace. The only things I can think of right now are 1. starter needs shimmed 2. bad solinoid or your vats system. Hope this helps.

Is vats a computer thing? Cause I don't have any computer/chips in my car.

Re: Camaro won't start
vats stands for vehical anti theft system I dont know when they started putting them in gm cars if your key has a computer chip in it you have vats there is a thread on here somewhere on it do a search u can bypass it or take it back to who installed the starter. Was it working when u left the shop?

Re: Camaro won't start
There's no vats. The car started up like three times, the engine was warm and I started it again to bring it to my friend's house and it wouldn't go.

Re: Camaro won't start
you may need a heat shield on your starter selinoid

does this happen mainly when the car is warm

Re: Camaro won't start
I've had it towed 4 times I think, once it over heated, the starter died, the clutch starter switch need replacing, and now this. I think two of those times were cold nights. I don't drive it in the winter either, I just got it back for rust removal on the bottom of the doors, guy told me I'd get it before thanksgiving and I got it back a few days ago.

+1.
Starter - 150
Labor of 2 screws -250?

Somethings wrong. It's 2 bolts, few wires and a little wiggling. I did mine in 25 mins... Took longer to actually jack the thing up and get all tools needed hahaha.

Re: Camaro won't start
Check the wiring to the solenoid make sure none are broken or burnt. If that dont work since its standard shift put it in gear and rock it back and forth maybe jammed in between two teeth on flywheel I used to have to hit mine with a sledgehammer sounds stupid but it worked also check warranty maybe bad starter or solenoid or bad clutch safety switch.

Re: Camaro won't start
it was the $400 starter that was put in the summer, fortunately it's still under warranty.

Then I would take it back to the mechanic and try not to let him recharge u for labor. Is it a tilton starter or what if not once he fixed it I would find a new mech thats way to much for a starter.

Re: Camaro won't start
They said because it wasn't the original engine they could only get that starter, a high performance $400 one. It seems like the they screwed me, but they've been wicked nice before. A few times they spent hours of labor trying to one thing on my car, and realizing they were wasting their time taking apart the cruise control or something. They eventually fixed it and charged me nothing. They've charged my mom nothing too sometimes, even though they've had every right to.

Re: Camaro won't start
Yay they charged me $0 but I had it inspected and I need a new rear right tire. Unfortunately the same model doesn't exist, so I have to get rubber that doens't say goodyear.
