Re: Need some help finding out the number codes on a "350" block

I have been doing some research and have found that M probably means built in mexico. I saw online a pontiac block where the second letter in the engine ID was P which = Pontiac, Im not sure if maybe the B in mine stands for buick? Just a guess.. Also saw a GM crate motor with 2800 at the end of the engine ID (which are the last four digits of the product number for the crate engine apparently) , mine is 6800 so my other guess is maybe its a crate motor? I have been searching all over. Please feel free to debunk some of my hunches

Engines installed in vehicles have a 2 or 3 letter code stamped on the pad that tells size /Hp / trans

It doesn't really matter, it's one of the most common 4" blocks cast and since it's a rebuild, it could be nearly anything.

I am not sure if it was installed in a car now because the suffix contains no letters. There is no partial vin number on the block either, also i could not find that casting number on any website. 010 is a high nickel block correct? the rest of the numbers i cannot seem to match. Its really made me curious. Oh and also it hasn't been rebuilt, but shows minimal wear. Stock 350 bore

No, that's largely a myth, for what little practical difference nickel content makes anyway.
