blew a head gasket

ok. so i got a 305 tpi. driver side head gasket is toast. i gota make my baby run again. now. here is the question. should i take the heads and see if they are salvagable. build em up and throw a cam. or should i go with vortec heads. now. im new to the vortec head swap scene. i hear alot and read alot of info. of course both routes will grant me to get a better cam. lol. but this is more for suggestions. build up the current set up, or get vortec heads and intake.

Vortec Style heads have a different intake/base plate. It gets to be expensive with only little HP gain in my opinion. If your heads are trash, ( they're pretty tough ) i'd go for CNC milled ones, a nice mild cam swap to match, and a tuning session on the dyno.. its cheaper and you'll feel like you've got something for your pain..

Re: blew a head gasket

those tpi heads are not horrible unless you are making big power

I would see if they are salvagable and put some springs on them

do a cam swap

what kind of exaust are you working with

I would do exaust before heads

worry about heads when you switch to a 350

right now what you want to do is get ready for the 350 by replacing all the external motor stuff over

make that 305 last as long as possible

do a timing chain and an oil pump

port out the plenem

subframe connectors!!!!
