I'm trying to decide on a fuel filter setup to go with dual Walbro 392 inline fuel pumps, run in parallel. They flow roughly 70 GPH (255LPH) each.

There is no pump in the tank. It is gravity fed and everything (pumps and filter(s)) will be lower than the tank. The high pressure side will operate at about 20 PSI.

I would like to put a good filter on the low pressure (inlet) side so that the pumps will be protected.

I am looking at this (rated @ 130GPH):

But I suspect that the small surface area would mean frequent cleaning and possible starvation with only 1 tank of cruddy gas.

But it is only rated at 90 GPH so I would have to run 2 in parallel, it is also bulky so getting 2 on the inlet side of the pumps would be difficult.

I don't know how either of these would work on the suction side of the pumps.


Anyone have any suggestions? Have you used one of these? Have you used something else that you would recommend?

That is definately some healthy flow, but I suspect it (like the first one I listed) has a small internal surface area and would clog easily.

ASAIK, that summit filter you posted only has a little round, flat screen filter, similar to a Russel i had a long time ago.

You are right the summit filter is a tiny disk. Here it is:

That System 1 filter looks small (1.5" diameter x 1.5" tall?) but it also looks like it would have 10 or 20 times the surface area of the Summit filter.

That is a stainless steel mesh filter isn't it? I don't see replacement elements on Summits web site, do you know if/where they are available?

Also, what do you think about using it on the suction side?

 

since its stainless, i believe its a lifetime filter, just hose it off and slap it back in? I was using it on the suction side of a mechanical setup, no issues, but im not sure if the 10gpm rating is pressure or suction. Cant be worse than the stock sock filters

 

OK I'm leaning toward the System 1 filter now. I may order one tomorrow.

 

if you are interested, and its the right size for what you are doing, i can sell you mine really cheap. It only has a couple hours of use, some nicks on the wrench flats from taking it apart a couple times.
