1982 camaro. need opinions!!
well i bought a camaro last week and just got it out the shop yesterday. and when i first left it was riding real good. (350 engine automatic.) my mechanic said i need to drive the car and run the gas out because it sat for years and the gas rotted out. when i take off the car drives good unless i try to take off all the way. but when i get up in speed the car starts to jerk and causes the speed to drop and when i take my foot off the gas it stops and i can go for a lil bit but then it starts to jerk again. is that the bad gas thats making it do that or is it something else?? any knowledge helps. thanks

Fuel Injected or Carb, TBI?
Original engine or NOM?
Its been awhile but I have had 2 IROC z's, a Z28 and a 4 cyl coupe, and a 82 berlenetta,
All were 305 CI except the 4 cyl coupe
and for the life of me I don't recall any stock 82 having a 350 in it from the factory.
If you know for sure the gas is bad in the tank, why not drain the tank and install fresh fuel filters for starters?

because on the 82s the gas tank is all the way in the middle and you would have to drop the entire exhaust to drain it. so he said to drive it til it runs out. and im actually not sure if its tbi or what not. i know i had to rebuild the carb when it was in the shop. hopefully that helps... im just now joining the camaro life. ive got lots to learn!!

No problem there. We all have lots to learn including me but you can buy a manual syphon pump at any auto parts store.
Why take a chance and clog up the fuel system including rebuilding the carb a second time with whats left in the tank by continuing to drive it that way?

Im wanting to side with the mechanic but I don't agree with continue to driving it that way. What are your plans once the tank is empty?

Best way to tell what motor you have is to look at the casting numbers, it's going to be hard to see with the motor in the car but it is possible to see them. They are on the driver's side of the block, where the motor bolts to the trans.
I'd drop the tank and drain it rather then risk clogging.

Yeah, if it stock it will be a 305, I have a 1982 Z-28 with a 305 but a 4 speed manual.
