runs good......for alil bit

Hey guys I have a 89 camaro rs 305 tbi. the problem I am having I believe has to do with the fuel pump. My car doesn’t run like it used to but it still runs ok. I can be driving for about 15 min without ******* the car and when I got to get into the gas it will bog down and will not (I mean will not) recover until I shut the engine off and recrank it then it is fine for about another 15 min. I need a couple outside ideas because if it’s not the fuel pump then I don’t want to replace it.

Things I have replaced-
Rotor button
Cap
Wires
Plugs
Ignition module
Fuel filter
Rebuild kit for the TBI

Check fuel pressure to eliminate fuel pump. However, I agree with other posts, something is causing air/fuel mixture to be off. Likely MAP or O2. Is check engine light on? Get computer read for free at Auto Zone if it is to find out which sensor/sensors are bad.

autozone? no lol we drive thirdgens we rock the paper clip lol much simpler
02 wont have much to do with it if the SES light isnt coming on its possible, but that thing would have been on by now its a sensor issue from my expreience if a fuel pump is bad, its bad no half operation, the tbi unit is working fine (assuming you rebuilt the regualtor properly) so the idea of you pump working great and then crapping out in 15 mins, not so propable but like he said get the FP tested to be sure, its something like 14 psi if i remember correctly waaay low copared to the TPI system

keep us posted

Re: runs good......for alil bit

haha thanks guys, yea i pulled to old paper clip trink and got theses three codes-

12- letting me know its working

23- MAT sensor, now i have a question. took my stock air intake off and im running an edlebrock proflow. could this be messing with my engine??

42- electronic spark timing- the codes states poor electrical connections, open or short circuit; defective ignition moduel; defective ECM. i have just replaced the ingnition moduel. i have an 89 and im useing a 91 ECM could this be a problem??

44- the last code is lean exhaust, defective o2, vacum leak, bad injector, defective map, and defective ECM

alot of this points and the MAP but i would really like to get some answers to the questions i have just presented. thanks in advance

Forgot that car is barely running. I just like going to autozone because it gives me an excuse to buy more stuff I don't need.

Re: runs good......for alil bit

well boys yesterday i ran up to advance and picked me up a fuel pressure tester. the tester stoped at ten but had alil room at after to simulate like twelve. well i checked the pressure and im easly getting 12psi. that should be perfect. so what could it be now. she just seems weak compared when i first got her going. im useing bosch 4+ plugs and i have heard that they are economy plugs, maby im loosing power cuz of them??

Re: runs good......for alil bit

If you corrected all the codes? then take out those P.O.S bosch +4 plugs they are garbage fro your chevy!!!! check your timing chain if car has lots of miles when chain strecthes it will retard the timing, and throw off the fuel and ignition settings.

Re: runs good......for alil bit

Just put in some ac/delco plugs use the platinum plugs and get some good wires, at least 8mm. bigger wires= less resistance, also upgrade your cap and rotor to msd .and get a batter coil, like msd you will get hotter spark smother running engine= more hp and fuel economy. is this a tpi or tbi car? whats the mileage on motor? also have you tried sea-foaming yet?

Re: runs good......for alil bit

coil has nothing to do with the advance , thats all by computer. the coil just gives hotter spark= more efficent.

sea-foaming is easy, here's how i did mine.
1) remove brake booster hose from booster, use a small funnel and slowly poor half can of sea-foam into the hose let sit for 15-30 mins.

2) other half of can into gas tank.

once car is started its gonna smoke like hell for about 20 mins its cleaning all the crap out of intake, it will run better. also clean your tbi throte out after car is running.

Re: runs good......for alil bit

not without doing alot of work, switching to a vac advance would be alot more of a headache than its worth, check your timing first, OH! and since you have a tbi you can run the seafoam stright down the throat of th TBI instead of the booster, just pour it in very slowly and when youre about done with the amount your gonna use just dump it all in and choke out the car, let it sit for 15 mins and then start it

those plugs arent those ridiculous looking ones with multiple prongs are they? if they are just get some delcos, as far as the power goes, correct the codes, check the tps and all that just general maintainence

Re: runs good......for alil bit

Use ac/delco platinums and get the big can it will treat entire system.
