I was getting a lot of oil in my intake and throttle body from the pcv valve. Even after changing the pcv valve this continued. I ended up disconnecting the pcv and plugging the port on the intake. Now i'm getting some smoking from the breather and a tiny amount of oil leaking from underneath the breather. The good news is at least the intake is now spotless. What can i do? Is it o.k. to drive without the pcv?

 

How many miles on your engine? It would be reasonable to assume you have excess blowby pass the rings .
The PCV system is primarily to stop fumes polluting the atmosphere but also serves to purge the fumes and condensation from your engine so sludge doesn't form. Without it working you have nothing to suck the water out of the crankcase

 

With alot of miles you will get blowby, but usually if getting oil into intake it means that your pcv isnt functionind properly, smoke from valve cover = blowby.

 

The engine is brand new, 400 miles on it. As for the smoke, it's very little and only after i disconnected the pcv. It ran fine with the pcv connected, but i was disturbed by the amount of oil being sucked up into the intake. I changed the pcv valve and it continued so thats why i disconnected it. Is there a way to keep the oil from getting into the intake?

 

who rebuilt the motor? its getting excessive crankcase pressure from somewhere, pcv needs to be hooked up .it will help with oil getting into intake.you could have a intake leak at the gasket where its sucking oil into the intake.

 

The oil is being sucked into the intake from the pcv. Ever since i disconnected the pcv, no more oil in the intake.

 

where is the pcv hose hooked to? on the intake or base of carb? it should be to base of carb or tbi, also does your valve cover have a baffle? if it doesnt change them. pcv needs to be hooked up it relieves excess crankcaes presuure in the engine.

 

It was hooked up underneath the throttle body. I have a first fuel injection tpi setup. There is a baffle in the valve cover under the pcv valve. I did'nt think that much oil could get pulled with the vapor. I had a puddle of oil in the intake plenum. I did'nt notice anything wierd as far as tailpipe smoke or anything, but i'm sure some oil was sucked in to the combustion chamber along with the air and fuel. I've never seen anything like it. I figured better to have it disconnected than sucking oil into the cumbustion chamber. Is there anything like an oil separator that exists for that?

 

nope just the baffle in valve cover,with only 400 miles on new motor or rebuilt? your piston rings may not be fully seated yet. did you use cast rings or molly rings? if cast should be broke in by now, if molly it could take up to 2,000 miles or alot of runs down the track.

 

If it is a continuing problem you could fit a catch can between the PCV valve and the vac source to catch the oil. As mentioned still believe it is a ring sealing problem causing excessive blowby to crankcase
