I picked up an engine its a complete block and heads that came out of a boat. i need help figuring out if i can put this in my 71 mc. it looks like the flywheel is really thick thats on it now and it also came with the waterpump the motor is new

block C/N 10243880

heads C/N 10239906

the cam is stock but it came with a receipt showing that the cam had been machined for performance

The motor was purchased from a guy that was planning on putting it in his 55 chev he also gave me a new intake and carb for it. i just need as much info as possible as far as being able to put it in the car and what stuff i need. i cant seem to find any info regarding to swapping the boat motor into the car or if its even possible. I do know its a gm 350/5.7 stamped 355 so its stock 30 over and all the info ive gotten is zz4 related and or truck related. any help would be greatly apreciated

Just double check that the cam isn't set up for reverse rotation.

All marine waterpumps are short pumps. For any vehicle '69ish or later, (except for a 'vette) you need a long water pump, if you want to use the stock accessories and brackets.

ya i found a marine gm motor chart and it says the motor is a standard rotation
and heres the cam number 14088526 is this okay

If it is new with those heads then it is L31 Vortec crate engine
1 pce seal crank ,Roller cam , might be 4 bolt mains
330Hp ?
Most likely have to swap out the marine flywheel that's all

is there a special fuel pump i need to use all ive ever done on my old schools were mechanical and im thinking this motor will only take electric, and will this bolt up to my 350 trans any and all info is well appreciated.

This longblock is for GM Based Small V8 applications
including Mercruiser, Volvo Penta, Crusader, Indmar,
Marine Power, etc. There are various changes that were
made on the 5.7L engine throughout the years. Select

This engine comes complete with all associated tin-ware
(oil pan, valve covers, timing cover), they do not include
the flywheel, balancer or water pump. These engines can easily
be identified by the (8) bolts used to fasten the intake
manifold to the cylinder heads.
NOTE: There is a provision for mechanical fuel pump on this engine. Therefore if you are currently using an electrical fuel pump you must get the fuel pump block off plate to cover this feature.
NOTE: It should be noted that the Vortec 5.7L longblocks are supplied WITHOUT a crank position sensor in the front timing chain cover. Therefore you must remove your existing crank position sensor and re-install it in the timing chain cover of the new longblock, otherwise the engine will leak oil out of this open hole. If your old engine did not utilize a crank position sensor you must purchase one to plug this hole as it requires this special o-ring type seal.

As I said above; it is a Vortec engine.
Nothing unique except the for the 8 bolt intake manifold.
Bellhousing the same as all SBC , any trans will bolt up .If you change the flywheel you will need a flywheel / flexplate to suit a 1 pce seal crank ('87+ F-Body ,truck , Vette ) as the older type will not bolt to your crank. You can replace the timing cover with one off any SBC so you don't have to plug the mentioned hole

thank you very much for your info. is there any good performance upgrades, as of now i have a new polished intake, and a new edelbrock 4brl carb. any suggestions on headers,fuel pump, ect.

It's a SBC; anything that works for other Chevys works for yours.Upgrade cam maybe?
