The most horsepower you can get would most likely make the car undriveable on the street.
What are your real goals?
A carb is not legal for street use in any of the 50 United States. Regardless of how it is enforced where you live.

Re: 350 build
i'm in canada and don't plan on going south with it, so a carb is fine.
car will mostly be a track car and once in a blue moon to work. so 4-500 hp would be nice. down the road a year or 2 i plan on getting a supercharger.

Okay, more information. Good.
Track car, carb. 500 HP, difficult with an NA 350. 400 a lot easier.
Heads. Power is in the heads. Get good ones, build the rest of the combo around them.
Supercharger will either require a complete rebuild of what you did NA, or you'll have to make compromises with the NA build.

Just go buy a crate engine and be done with it. You'll easily spend $5k building a 500hp engine considering the heads you'll need plus crank/rods/pistons.

Russ - What province are you in ? Knowing your EXACT location might be helpful eh?
Get the 195cc heads if you want that HP level. 180cc is more drivable, but based on what you're doing, 195cc heads won't hurt you.
Putting a stroker kit in it while rebuilding it is CHEAP HP. An AFR headed 383 with an aggressive roller cam can be an easy 425HP.

Re: 350 build
Based on personal experience I agree it's fun building an engine, however when you find out you could have gotten more hp for the same money or less you end up a little disappointed.

I have to agree, proven combonations, warranty, knowing exactly what to expect is money well spent. When you completely price out the money your going to spend doing it yourself, you'll quickly see it adds up real quick. But if you have the dough, go for it.
