no spark to plugs but spark to injectors

I have been searching this site for any related questions/answers and couldnt really relate anything that is going on with my '92 camaro. I was so sure it was the vats but now a friend says that the injectors are getting spark but the plugs aren't...my son was driving it and at a stop lite it stalled, we thought it was just gas but then filled it up and fuel pump engages, the car cranks but will not turn over...all fuses in the fuse box are ok- I am unable to take the distributor off and rotate it and try again...could it still be the vats?
any ideas will be helpful to this single mom

If you have power to the injectors and no spark at the plugs it would most likely be something in the distributor or the coil.

ya- that seems to be the direction, and the distributor cap and plugs aren't the easiest things to get to...

Re: no spark to plugs but spark to injectors

if you take the distributor cap off, there should be a little module under it on the flat side of the dizzy with a couple wires running to it and a couple wireing connectors coming out the other side. i dont remember what its called but maybe you could find one at a junk yard for cheap. a friend of mine had a similar problem with his but after it would cool down it would start. i dont know if that would cure your problem, but it would be a good place to start, i believe that module should have one of the wires running from that to the coil, that should be the signal wire, it tells the coil when to fire. hope this helps

Re: no spark to plugs but spark to injectors

i would say that if it turns over then its not the vats, however if you hit the key and nothing happens at all, then it could be the vats. if your just not getting spark to the plugs, prolly just a sensor, or possible bad coil. if you wanna be for sure to get it, just go to your local junk yard and pick up a dizzy and a coil for cheap, put em both in and in theory it should work. or if you dont wanna replace the whole distributor, just change the module . i beleive there is some kind of insulating grease under it, or maybe thermal paste or something, idk for sure, but if you dont use it, it can burn up that module again and then your at square one again.
