i thought so ha ha well according to this ASE certified tech he has a 350 tuned port injection that came off a special ed 1987 iroc with a 350 tpi and its speed density..i offered him 500 for the motor with set up and he said no because the tpi alone was worth 2 grand..so i asked is the tpi polished or ported..and he said no its stock for 500 ill give u the block with just the heads for 1500 ill give u the entire set up lol wow im suprised on how people try to screw people.

Well he may not have been trying to screw you he may have honestly believed it so maybe hes just been ignorant lol. Though it really goes to show just how much ASE certified really means thats assuming he actually was lol. Not to say all ASE certified people are idiots or even most of them or even that there idiots because they dont happen to know much about 25 year old cars that they've probably never worked on but I hear a lot of stupid coming from the "experts" lol. Not to mention a quick search on ebay or craigslist would have cleared up his dilutions lol.

You might be able to get a couple hundred bucks for a complete '87 TPI system.

No worries its his problem that he will be tripping over it till he realizes that its not worth that much. Not to mention the demand for these intakes is falling fast with the onset of the LT and LS series motors. So by the time he figures it out it may be worth more in scrap metal than an intake lol.

Hahahaha I have to agree also. Once I told my 84 camaro to have it check out due to a small problem I had. One of the ASE mechanics told me that I had an illegal set up on my camaro even though I had the stock quadrajet in it. After I told him what's the right set up for my car he said somethings I didn't know what he was talking about.
What I don't get is why sometimes ASE certified mechanics don't know anything about cars over 25 years. Image 20 years from now what people will say when they see a thirdgen camaro can't image it.

Re: did 350 tpi speed density come in 87 irocs?

Well its one of thoes things now a days these cars (and the technology that drives them) are disappearing. So just like all those history classes you took back in high school the knowledge learned there becomes history itself because you never used it. I cant tell you how many people Ive helped on here that have taken their cars into shops for repairs and just ended up with a big bill and no solution. Thats even with fuel injection like youve seen bring something in with a carburetor on it and there might as well be a cold fusion reactor or a jet engin under the hood for the most part they have no clue lol. Again not to be to hard on them its not every day they work on these cars so I can cut them some slack but still even on other issues and more modern cars I hear a lot of stupid. Pretty much if the scanner wont tell them whats wrong good luck and get prepared for a big bill. Again not all ASE techs are bad but Ive met a few too many.
