Tach nightmare.
I swapped the whole cluster and each time the tach just rolls all the way up and pegs. I think it's the IC chip on the right side of the cluster. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix the problem?

I think you have a crossed wire in that mess behind the dash. mine does it as soon as i reconnect the wire from the coil and start the car. I think we're dealing with two different issues but I'm really not sure. I'll let ya know if I find anything out.

Re: Tach nightmare.
I've read through the article. The problem is this using a variable resistor, is this it will be extremely difficult to tune to the correct ohm rating. I'd rather just buy a working chip but I can't find one anywhere. Any leads?
By the way MotorMouth, Nice ride looks just like mine aside from the rims.

Re: Tach nightmare.
All you have to do is to unsolder the connections for the 2 pins and get it to 198k ohms or as close as possible. That is the way mine was done and it worked out great. If you know someone who works in maintenance maybe they can for it for free. That's how I got mine fixed. We looked and the closest we could get it was using the 5 in this pick.
Thanks for the complement. Too bad she doesn't look that good now. But come next year she will be better than ever!
