Why is this disconnected

I'm getting a Haynes tomorrow because i hate asking dumb questions. What is this and why is it unplugged and theres two hoses that are going nowhere.

Also I'm leaking coolant from the thermostat housing bad casket time to change. Should i get one from the dealer or is there one just as good for cheaper.

If I'm not mistaken, that port is supposed to be left open to atmosphere. Why there would be hoses on it I don't know. Should be just an open port with nothing on it.

Thermostat gasket you can get anywhere- it's still just a standard SBC thermostat gasket- nothing special needed.

is your car running like crap? You will need the emissions diagram.. I am not sure if the Haynes manual has that... Previous owner may have plugged the vacuum lines...

I meant the thermostat if I'm changing the gasket i should change the thermostat. I was talking better brand ,temp, like a 180 do these cars run hot in the summer. Or stick with the 195 i drive her in the cold temps sometimes 30 degrees never in snow
