Distributor not sitting all the way?

It seems like my new Streetfire Dizzy isn't sitting all the way... Can anyone chime in as to why it would do this?

umm... if I remember correctly, there is a shaft connected to the oil pump or something inside where the distributor goes in, look in there with a flash light, you have to align it with a screwdriver to where it will align with the dizzy...

If you do that you will mess up the timing and you will have to set the base timing.... I don't have concrete information, there is a post about the steps to set the base timing though....

Re: Distributor not sitting all the way?

You can stick a flathead screwdriver in there and turn it if need be. I used to an old distributor shaft and machined a piece so that it would be spot on and I wouldn't have to hunt for the shaft.

I got it to sit. Just bumped the starter a few times.

I've used that very method many times.

I just install the distributor with the rotor tip pointed where I wanted it and, with the harmonic balancer mark set at the BTDC timing mark I wanted on the compression stroke. I then just bumped the engine. At some point the distributor would drop all the way down. BINGO!
