bad charging after new pulley`s
hello all
my engine is running now after the tpi to carb swap.
i have see that the alternator is bad charging at idle!
when i give a little more gas on the throttle they charging good!
i have a mid mouth pulley set from march.
alternator pulley (the alternator is a 140 amp)
crank pulley
P/S pulley
the waterpump is a electric one
what is my problem here and how can i fix it!
many thanks dennis

Re: bad charging after new pulley`s
If they are underdrive pulleys then there really is no problem. Underdrive pulleys are known for this. If you only need to raise the idle 100 RPM's or so then you could just try raising the actual idle RPM so the alternator will charge.

Thats pretty much how underdrive pulleys work. Less drag on the rotating assembly for more power. The alternator will charge less because it's not turning as fast.

Re: bad charging after new pulley`s
Like it was said before just adjust the idle so that the engine idles higher thus putting out more rpms so the rotation of the alternator is faster thus causing it to charge better. I had the same problem and adjusting the idle fixed it.

If you then still have a problem, then tighten the belt more, or switch to an external adjustable voltage regulator for your alternator.
