89 305 TBI will not start
I parked the car for the winter. It was running fine when I parked it in the garage. I took it out mid winter on a nice day and it ran horrible. When I came to a stop the car would cutoff.
I park the car and 2 weeks later attempted to start it. It would crank, fire up, run rough for about 3 seconds and then shut off. It would repeat over and over.
I was planning on changing the fuel pump this winter anyway so pulled the tank, swapped the pump, changed the filter, put a rebuild kit in the TBI.
After all of that work the car is doing the same thing. I checked the vacuum lines and they all appear to be correct and in good shape. The TBI is shooting gas and it seems to be getting spark because it does start for a few seconds. I am at my wits end. If anybody has experienced this or has any ideas as to what I can look at next I would appreciate any help. Spring is coming and I want to get the car on the road. Thanks!

Sometimes the injectors will get stuck if not used for a while. See how thaey are spraying. Maybe some seafoam in the tank will help.

I removed the TBI and disassembled it. I cleaned all of the parts including the injectors and put it back together with all new O rings, gaskets, etc. Does it sound like a fuel problem? I was able to see one injector whille turning the car over. It appeared to be spraying but was inconsistent as the motor was running rough for the few seconds it was running.

When are car sits for a long period of time i agree with the above post,,they can get stuck. Most importantly you can have some "gunk" in your tank that could have clogged the injectors once you started the car. We carry seafoam, give it a try, if it doesn't work we can check them on our bench for you.

I pulled the gas tank, cleaned it and reinstalled it. I replaced the fuel pump and the in tank filter. I changed the in line fuel filter under the car. I cleaned and rebuilt the TBI. I pulled the TBI injectors, cleaned them with carbuerator cleaner and blew them out. I replaced all of the o rings and gaskets. The entire fuel system should be clean. I also put new gas in it and fuel injector cleaner. Same issue as before I did all that work. Another post indicated MAF sensor, vacuum, distributor may be the source. ?????

Re: 89 305 TBI will not start
Good Morning folks.
How do I unstick the fuel injector? Everything is very clean. Car is kept in a garage and no nesting or anything goes on.
Last night I hooked a spare spark plug to one of the wires and I seem to be getting good spark. If I am getting good spark I assume I don't have a coil or distributor problem. Should I consider changing the spark plug wires? They are only a few years old and have less than 5,000 miles on them but who knows.
I see commnets regarding checking fuel pressure. I assume I need a guage but do not know where to hook it up and how to test. Thoughts would be great

I took of the distributor cap and found rust. I blew it out, cleaned it up. The car started after that but ran very rough. I replaced the distributor and the car now runs great. Thanks to all for helping me chase the gobblins.
