Help Diagnose Problem!

Problem: Originally car won't start at all. I ran diagnostics and got a code of 54. We (My Dad and I) came to the conclusion that it was fuel system. we replaced the fuel pump relay because that was what the error said it could be. car still didn't start. after sitting for a week, the car started up and ran for 10-15 min before it shut off. we got a fuel pressure gauge and that confirmed that when the car stopped running, it was because of lack of fuel pressure. We then went through the process of replacing the fuel pump. Once that was all said and done, the car ran for about 30 min before it shut off. Now with both new Fuel pump and new Fuel pump relay car still only runs for short amount of time.

Can Anyone give us any other ideas? We can't seem to figure out what is causing it to stop running. My thoughts are that something is over heating, but Fuel pump is new and we checked relay when car stopped and it was cool.

I know that is kind of hard to understand. Just ask me if you need clarification.

Any help is appreciated.

Fuel filter?
Fuel pressure regulator?
Hows the oil look/ exhaust? Any indications of head gasket?
I am having very similar issues, let me know, if/when you solve.

Re: Help Diagnose Problem!

sounds like fuel filter or a kink in your fuel line, did you use a new screen with your new fuel pump?

Re: Help Diagnose Problem!

Fuel Filter is new with the Fuel Pump. Both head gaskets were replaced about 2 months ago. Oil is Fine, No change from what it normally is. And Screen is also brand new. I will look into a kink in the fuel line. Thanks, I will let you know what i find out.

Re: Help Diagnose Problem!

I just got of the phone with a friend and he seems to think it is something electrical. Any thoughts and what specifically it could be?

We did pull up the carpet in the back under the rear driver side set. All the wiring was fine. I am currently looking into the oil pressure switch. Apparently it is on the same circuit as the Fuel Pump and could case those circuit to not work properly. I will let you know if that helps.

Re: Help Diagnose Problem!

Ha! I got it!

Problem was that there were a couple of bare wires on the MAF burn off relay that we they got hot or something, moved and touched each other. How ever the system works, those two wires touching instantly causing the fuel pump to shut off.

Thanks for all the help guys.
