Whats my rwhp?
alright so i dont have the money to see from a dyno but i wanted to kno what you think my horsepower is to my rear wheels.
i have a 91 rs 305 tbi automatic
heres what i have done.
1. flowmaster 80 series just the muffler
2. 14/3 k&n air filter with ultimate tbi mods
3. took off the a.i.r pump and all the hardware
4. the fuel canister on the front drives side ive also taken off idk if it will boost horsepower but i figure i should tell
5. it has about 200,000 thousand miles so if u can tell me what u think my horsepower please try to factor in all the carbon build-up that must be on this engine
6. 160 degree thermostat i also dont know it that will improve my horse power but a cool engine is a happy engine
everything else on the car is stock
the only reason i want to know is becaue my friend is telling me that his stock nissan 240 5 speed will beat me, its rated at about 150 hp to the fly wheel im thinkin its gotta have about (and im being generous) 130hp to the wheels and he says becaue of the weight difference he will "kick my ***" i think not but i would like to kno what horsepower i should have to my rear wheels, just for general knolwedge

Re: Whats my rwhp?
Stock the car was rated at 170hp - I'm assuming that's crank not wheels. Muffler does nothing much without rest of exhaust, tbi mods won't give much without exhaust, air filter does nothing much without exhaust - maybe you could assume your mods balanced out for the age, thus still 170hp crank.
There's ALWAYS someone who will beat you - ALWAYS. Forget racing it.
Just tell your bud that he needs that extra speed to get away so that no one notices him driving that girly car! (I'm assuming it's a 240sx and not a 240Z).

Re: Whats my rwhp?
yeah its a 240sx and im going to end up racing him cuz he will boast and brag that his inline 4 will beat my v8 and me knowing me will put my rite mind to the side and race him but i still want to know my horsepower to the rear wheels.... if it is still 170hp to the crank what will that give me to the wheels?

Re: Whats my rwhp?
figure a 25-30% hp loss through an auto trans(i think dont quote me) and race him from a dead stop and your off the torque will help you and try to only race an 1/8 mile not a quarter cuz he may catch you

Re: Whats my rwhp?
There's a pretty significant weight difference there, he'll be just about 1000lb lighter than you. Keep the race short and hope he can't shift.

Re: Whats my rwhp?
Well 170*.25= a 43 horsepower loss. That leaves you with 127 at the wheels. And thats assuming only a 25% drivetrain loss and assuming your 200,000 mile motor still makes 170 H.P.

Re: Whats my rwhp?
i had a 240sx with the sohc ka motor and it had a chip full exhaust headder and cold air intake that sucked off the road. and in 4 gear around 6k it was doing 110-115 there not fast. i actally toasted the motor on that run. then i swapped a sr20det.. night and day.. 300whp it was fast!! loved that car,

Re: Whats my rwhp?
May torq be with you biglou. If ya do race him, definitely do a dead stop. If you're good on takeoff without burning out, you should have him easy.
If ya win, make him cough up gas money for wasting it on him. Gas isn't cheap lol

thes sr20det is a dohc 2.0 turbo very easy swap and well worth the power! number one swap for drift 240's

Re: Whats my rwhp?
its getting to 6k the fastest that matters. the stock ka24 nissan motor is a sohc 2.4 litre out of there hard body 4x4. good tq motor but not a over all horse power machine. the sr20det dohc 2.0 turbo raps out faster pulls harder.

Re: Whats my rwhp?
we will defiantly be racing from a dead stop, i have a set of 255-15 on my rear an i can barely spin them so the launch for me will be pretty clean
as for the 200 thousand miles and all that comes with it what if i put some z max in my cars fuel system, they praise this stuff on tv, maybe this will bring back a few of my horses, i dont want to use it unless some one recommends it though because that stuff scares me, all i need is to burn the rings out of my car and the engine be done for
from what im told his car is completely stock, no headers, no intake all stock and he has to have atlest 15 or so years of carbon build up and wear on that engine as well so im thinking that it should b a good 1/4 mile race
thanks for all this great input guys

Re: Whats my rwhp?
Figure 15-20% for driveline loss and another 5-10% for 200K miles worth of wear and you're looking at 119-136rwhp. Use your TQ/low first-gear advantage and make it a short race...

Re: Whats my rwhp?
Or rather than trying to only race a certain distance to make sure you win or doing this or that, the two of you could just head to the track, run the quarter and whoever wins, wins. No excuses or anything. If you loose, just accept the fact that he has the faster car and move on.
