BEST Tech Manual(s)???

Just got my 16 yr old son his first car - 1990 3rd Gen V6 project car.

Any recommendations on comprehensive, step by step troubleshooting and repair manual(s) to pick up and where to get them?

I would probably say a GM service manual... only drawback is that I think they're around 100 dollars, that's if they're still available...

Re: BEST Tech Manual(s)???

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Where might I find one? Any other manual recommendations? I've briefly looked at the Chiltons and Haynes but they look more general than specific. Any comments help.

Re: BEST Tech Manual(s)???

Never been a fan of Haynes because it keeps referring to bringing the car in to the shop for everything. Not what I bought it for. Might be good for someone just starting out though since it covers the basics.

GM manuals are available at helmsinc.com

Can possibly save money by buying the next year or even model. Basics are the same but price can vary from $130 to $30.
Actually 1990 looks like the best year anyways:

Re: BEST Tech Manual(s)???

Try your local library. Mine has some repair manuals and carries the huge chiltons books that have a lot more than the Haynes.

Good feedback. Ordered a complete OEM 1990 Camaro Shop Manual from E-bay today for $10 Also picked up a Haynes manual for a cross reference. Should do the trick

Re: BEST Tech Manual(s)???

i have a chiltons manual. my family has always sworn by chilton for car manuals on the cheap. way more descriptive and informative than hanes. thicker too. covers everything but detailed breakdowns. like rebuilding engines trannies starters and the like. general removal and repair for just about everything is in it though. and if its something thats still not clicking, it will put you on the right track.

gm service manual is probably the best option. but its not 25 bucks like a chiltons.
