L05 roller cam swap

I have a L05 3638 block, with a flat tap cam. It has the provisions for a roller cam and i am almost done swapping a lt1 cam in it. i am missing one part... the cam retainer plate. I got one sent from a 305 tpi engine and it didn't fit. the plate was not long enough to line up with the bolt holes. I dont know where to get one, so i am at a dead stop. Can someone help?

Try a dealership
There are two different retainer bolts patterns

Part # 10088128
Camshaft Retainer First design with 3.62" bolt center as used on ZZZ, ZZ1 and ZZ2 engines. 1988-1990 engines use # 10088218 with 3.620" bolt pattern.

Part # 10168501
Camshaft Retainer 2nd design with 3.294'' bolt center
Used with ZZ3 & ZZ4 Engines. Also Used on 1996-2000 L29 454 Big Block Chevy And 454, 502 GM Performance Parts Engines With Roller Camshafts & Gen VI Block.

Re: L05 roller cam swap

yeah i have looked at each one and i dont know which to get. My guess would be one i have was the first design because it came from a 86-88 tpi engine. I guess that my l05 came from a 88-92 truck, so you would think the first design would fit since the second one says 1996-2000.

Re: L05 roller cam swap

In case you do not have upgraded the timing chain, the GMPP 12371043 chain kit comes with both style retainer plates.

Re: L05 roller cam swap

I measured across the bolt holes (between the outside edge of each hole). it was just right under 4in. The retainer plate i have measures just above 3.75in.

Thomas1976, i already have the correct timing belt, but in the pic on that link i know i need the plate on the left, and i have the one on the right. The only problem is the dealerships photos look the same to me.

i greatly appreciate the help guys

You measure center of hole to center of hole and match it to the retainer measurements I gave above.

I listed the GM part numbers and the measurements above. Go by that , not pictures
