Need a battery

My first post on these boards.
I just purchase a 1989 RS Convertible; right now it is, with any luck, winding its way north from the great state of Texas. I only have a couple questions the most pressing being:
I need a battery, (the seller had four cars and one battery he needs to keep it to get the other cars started, /sigh) so when the car get here I need a battery to get it off the carrier. I want to try and restore this back to as original as practical. So does anyone have info on the original battery?
The VIN would be my next question (1G1FP31E7KL) it would appear that Eigth Digit Engine: (E 305-170 (L03)
Is this a V8 or a V6, I think it is a V8 it was advertized as a V6? any thoughts?
Thanks for the info in advance, great site.

Re: Need a battery

if you go to napa or any other auto store they'll just ask a few questions, what year make and model. how many cylinders and then a few choices of batteries will pop up.

check the distributor and see how many plug wires care there

Re: Need a battery

I may have wanted to be more specific; I wanted to know what battery (manufacture, make or model) came with the car so I could have shot at finding that.
I will have to have it before the car gets here, so I can get it off the carrier. He’s not going to want to wait for me to head off and buy one.
But you may have put me on to another source of info thanks.

Re: Need a battery

it was probably an AC Delco, though like i said, many other companies make batteries for our cars, Napa, Autozone, Advanced Autoparts.

even summit has a couple

and ecklers camaro

http://www.rickscamaros.com/catalogs...0&y=0&cat=1737

you'll be fine with any battery that fits the car via year make and model selections.

but if you want a factory battery then try a dealership

Re: Need a battery

Thanks again, in the end he left the battery in the car, so I would be able to get it off the truck. I will check to see if it ends up being the right one. If not... well than I'll have a spare.

Re: Need a battery

L03 is a 305 TBI engine.

Its a V8.

If you had a hard time telling that, than this car will teach you quite alot. There will always be something to replace.
