A/c with carb

I swapped out my 305 for a bored n stroked carbed 350. I kept my A/C and it works. My question is what have you guys done to solve the RPM drop when you kick on the A/C? Right now Ive got my idle set at 800-900 RPM, but when I kick on the A/C the RPM drops to about 400-500 and then dies. The only way to keep it goin' is to give it a little throttle, which would be impractical while driving. Is there some kind of solenoid out there that bumps up the idle when the A/C is switched on like the stock computer would do? How did older factory non CC carbed cars overcome this?

Re: A/c with carb

My 80s Buick is standard carb n AC

Only thing extra on the standard carb I could think of would be the idle stop solinode but that's to stop run on.....

Id have to take a wild guess and say somehow it must turn off the AC below a certain speed but can't test, it was out of air so the belt is long gone.

Unless it used the cruise system to bump it up.

Its a very good question

Re: A/c with carb

Hell no, I live in Texas, and the temps in summer reach 100+. No way in hell Im going through that with no AC. My truck has no AC its torture driving it in the heat with all 5 windows open.

So far Ive found out that 70s factory A/C cars did have an idle control solenoid to raise the idle speed when the A/C was on. Ive found 2 on ebay for $75-$100. Is there a cheaper solenoid to be had?

Re: A/c with carb

Ive read countless engine swaps and switching to carb swaps and such. Out of all of them Ive read, Ive never seen anyone mention how they fixed the RPM drop issue with the AC (aside from removing it completely).

Junk yard, 5 finger discount

I was told it was for run on but that also make sense, it must be engerized when the AC is on. Its a 1 wire hook up deal.

Thats what I was thinking, but then Id have to fab up a bracket and all that. Im curious to see if there is a kit that solves this problem, but I havent found anything.

Re: A/c with carb

depends on the intake, should be ready for it, the bracket is part of the Sol and only held on with 1 bolt.
