Identify this part

So i just bought a 1985 camaro iroc-z and well frankly i dont know anything about it. Ive only owned newer imports. Te car starts fine, but sometimes it runs a little crappy and when i let off the gas, the rpms nearly drop all the way to zero. Anyway, i just needed to know what this part is, because it looks important, and it runs to things with electrical plugs on it. But there is no belt on the pully. Any help would be great.

Re: Identify this part

The top circled part is not EGR, it's the valve for the A.I.R (smog) pump. EGR is on the intake.

No.

The first circle is the Diverter valve. It is part of the emissions equipment. It costs $450 to buy one brand new, I threw mine in the garbage. It "shouldn't" be removed, especially if your state does emissions testing. But this part will not cause the motor to run poorly.

The second (lower) circle is your smog pump. Again, part of emissions equipment, and won't cause your motor to run poorly if it isnt hooked up.

Re: Identify this part

alright thanks, i guess i may as well remove it.
But what can make my car run poorly then?
Also if it runs for a while (longer than 30 minutes) it starts running a little hot.

Re: Identify this part

I don't why the A.I.R pump is called a smog pump it doesn't pump smog, it supplies fresh air to the exhaust ports, and the catalytic converter to decrease the smog.

Re: Identify this part

sorry i never made it a point to figure out which was which on my car, none of it worked, and half was already cut up when i got it, so i just grouped it all into emissions junk.
