How to pull the gas tank in a 92 camaro

Its a 92 Rs, I believe the neck has broke were it connects to the tank cause it was leaking under the car when you try and put gas in it. Either way I have to pull the tank cause the fuel sending unit went out also.

put the car on jack stands by the frame not the rearend remove the rear panhard bar and the shocks also the 2 bolts that hold the torque arm drop the rear as far as it will go and undo the two straps holding the gas tank then you should have enough room to move it around and get it out with the filler neck disconnected from the body.

You also have to remove the gas tank door and the plastic piece in there.

its gonna be very heavy if you've got a lot of gas in there. i used the obd connector to run the fuel pump and drain some of the gas out. will definitely make a difference if you're doing this on the ground

Ok thanks, also is it true there is a gasket from the neck to the tank? I believe it is leaking gas there when you try to fill it up.

The filler neck does not disconnect from the tank. Its all one piece. If its leaking there, there is a crack somewhere.

I beleive I may be the one who originally told you to look at the "grommet" between the neck and tank. If so, I appologize. Our third gens do not have this grommet. The neck is welded to the tank and if this seam is broken you will either need a new tank or find a welding shop that will take on a fuel tank repair.

i never had to remove the shocks, or torque arm bolts to do mine.

i had to remove the shield cover, panhard bar, the plastic piece in the gas door, tank straps, and then "slightly" bend the filler neck with a pry bar. (not even a whole inch)

Neat! Which 2 connections in the ALDL (never heard it referred to as OBD) connector will fire up the pump? Won't help the OP or even most people, as a faulty pump is the reason for dropping the tank, but it is still useful info to have!

Re: How to pull the gas tank in a 92 camaro

Its not 2 connectors. If you apply 12v to terminal G, it will activate the fuel pump. This is also known as the fuel pump test terminal.
