86 lb9 roller block/post 87heads

so im working on picking up a 86 T/A tpi, lb9, auto, from a guy at work.. now ive done a lot of work on second gens but this will be the first post 81 fbody project... roller blocks were started in 87 also the head to intake surfaces chagend at the same time if im correct.. is the fact that this is a TPI moter change any of that or is this just a tpi intake designed for the 86 and back heads... and is it a roller block or not..

the guy who owns it now got it to make it the knight rider car but dosent know anything about cars so when it started over heating he just kept driving.. AZ summers are not forgiving to any engine.. turns out the fan stoped running.. (prlly a fuse or somthing stupid like that) but as is hes got cracked heads now.. i just need to know what gen of heads to pick up when i rebuild the 305... and yeah im gonna rebuild it.. i need a fun but economic car to drive in collage.. my 81 camaro is getting supercharged and the 69 c10 is for work.. for now...

.
Other than the obvious internal differences (crank / cam ) with 1 pce seal crank , roller blocks ; the only '87+ difference is angle of two center intake bolt holes on cast iron heads and the use of centerbolt rocker covers

ok cool.. i was just making sure that the tpi moters were not an acception to the rule.. so the intake on my 86 will be different from that off an 87 regardless that its a tpi.. so my block will be a non roller 2pc RMS with the old intake bot pattern.. good deal.. thanks

Once the intake is off all you have is a regular SBC with the same roller / non roller block differences as any other SBC

Only difference is the bolt pattern on the intake base ;pre / post '87.Everything else on intake is the same

yeah i know.. i was more referring to if the tpi intake was only made with the post 86 bolt pattern or if there is a pre and post 86 pattern tpi base

Not exactly. For the F-body yes, but the Corvette didnt change. This is also something that can be dealt with by modifying the center 4 bolt holes. Also, the 86 block will have a one piece rear main seal.
