Valve Cover gaskets

My baseball coach told me that my oil leakage problems could be the valve cover gaskets and he said thebolts might just be loose and you probably need to tightem them up or get new ones,

How easy is this and is there a site that is really cheap ? (to buy them) lol

Re: Valve Cover gaskets

Possibly, be sure not to "overtighten" the vc bolts, because they are centerbolts and they may indent, which will break the gasket seal.
But I pulled my valve covers to do new intake gaskets and they had a stock silicone gasket, so chances are it's not the gasket. But it's worth a try, the passenger side vc is a bitch if your car is still equipped with smog.

Re: Valve Cover gaskets

Just try tightening them first. It may be hard to get to but you would have to tell us. If it's stock then there may be a lot sitting on top of everything.

If they're cork it may be a PITA to get it all off but you'd need to clean both surfaces good to make sure they don't leak again. Gasket remover helps break up old RTV and gasket material. Be careful not to dig into the metal if you use a metal scraper.

I usually use RTV on the valve cover side and nothing on the bottom and it works good for me. Some use RTV on both sides of the gasket and some don't use any at all.

Rubber gaskets are probably better and/or easier to clean up when you go to replace them. cork is cheapest.
