Oil pressure sending unit replace
Oil pressure sending unit replace
I have an 87 camaro sport coupe, 2.8 v6. I noticed a small drip and i could not find where it was coming from. I changed the oil since i just bought the car, the old oil was pretty bad. Then i didn't drive the car for a week. I came back and started it to try and find the leak, it starts pouring oil out, there was a solid stream to the ground.
I found out the leak is coming from somewhere under the distributor cap, or somewhere very close to that location. I've heard about the opsu causing this problem, but my idiot light never comes on unless i get on the breaks pretty hard.
So i'm wondering if anyone has replaced theirs and how they did it or if you think it's coming from somewhere else. I want to go out and fix this today, hopefully it's not a big issue!

Re: Oil pressure sending unit replace
Rear main seal, Oil sending unit leak, Oil plug leak or blown out.
Could be any one of these. Jack the car up in the front securely (jack and stands)
and have a friend start the car for a few seconds. If its literaly pouring out in a stream you should spot it pretty quickly. Be careful under there no matter what you do.

If it's the OPSU, you don't have to remove the dist cap - you can get to it on the driver side - it's on the driver side of the dist. There is a small hole in the china wall (top of the motor just behind the intake) that an elbow screws into, and the OPSU is screwed onto that elbow - just take the connector off and unscrew it - it looks like:

Re: Oil pressure sending unit replace
I hope i might get some help. My oil pressure just started running high. Well now when i start the car it is half way, but the minute i put in gear it all the way to the top.
I have been doing some research and everyone has a little bit different story. funny thing is my car never ran better. So I have no leaks, and this just happened over night. I have heard could be sending unit, or gauge ?... So any info would be helpful. Thanks
